A Felt Busy Book
I snagged this idea from a post I saw on this blog, and thought I'd give it a try. It's a little buttoning activity that folds into a handy booklet for travel. You can visit her blog to get the full instructions. I hand-sewed mine, using the blanket stitch, and also added a pocket for storing the little felt pieces. Little Bean gave this a try this morning and was able to do it with relative ease. Miss O also tried it, and she did three or four buttons and then gave up. Still, I think this will present a challenging and interesting activity for them both, and of course strengthen those fine motor skills and improve concentration. I plan to leave it in the car, where they have long minutes of waiting, and something like this will seem more interesting and unique in the absence of all their other belongings.

That's brilliant! I just might try to make that for some Christmas gifts for Meghan and her cousin! Buttons are tough!
I will have to give this a try...Emily likes to try to do the buttons. This will be great practice. I like all the different buttons you used for yours!
I nominated you for an award. :) Come on over to my blog and get it!
I am almost finished with my button book. It will be an Easter gift. I sewed the buttons on and stitched it up. Did you close it with ribbon and a button like the other post? I forgot to do that before sewing it up. I'm just wondering if you think it's fine without it or if I should go back and do it. I think I can without too much havoc. Let me know please. derekannete@gmail.com
Annette--I tried your email but for some reason it bounced back to me. (??) Anyway, I did close it up with a ribbon and button, but I too forgot to do this first, and had to add it at the end. I don't think it's necessary, but it sure makes it look nicer! ;) The kids have played with this several times in the car already, and it's nice to know they are enjoying it. You'll have to blog about yours so I can see the results!
