Help for Poor Grip
I noticed just recently that Little Bean has modified his pencil grip to look like the person in the photo above. That pic is obviously not him, but he does the same thing--he tucks his thumb in behind his index finger. He has only started this about a month or so ago, and my nagging alone isn't helping him to correct it. Does anyone have a recommendation for a pencil gripper that would help with this particular problem?? It looks terribly uncomfortable, and he does complain during handwriting times, but I'm not sure if maybe it actually is comfortable for him. Either way, I'd rather have time doing it correctly just in case it causes problems in the future.

Highly recommend these...

We don't use them 24/7 on every writing utensil, but whenever I notice my daugther's grasp starting to look a bit 'off' I encourage her to use them. She likes them because they're squishy.
Handwriting without tears uses real short pencils for this, that way they can't grip it like that. You can make your own by cutting your pencils down small, if your interested go to handwriting without tears website and look at their small pencils, gives you an idea how small they should be. Once they get in the right habit they can go back to whole pencils. My kids have done well with doing it that way.
Becca--thanks! I was looking at those ones because someone else I knew used them to correct her daughter's grip, but her daughter had a different issue, so I wasn't sure if they were helpful with his specific problem.
Angela--We actually use pencils for little hands (the HWT pencils) pretty much exclusively; it doesn't seem to be helping unfortunately.
Just found your blog but had to laugh at this post. I still hold my pencil like that! haha, guess I have poor grip! I have very pretty penmanship, though! :o) I hated those ergonomic holder things when I was little because they threw me off!
